Featured in Soundings: Lessons From the Great Loop

The December 2025 edition of Soundings Magazine.

This month, our family’s Great Loop journey was featured in Soundings (December 2025) in an article titled Lessons From the Great Loop, written by Jeanne Craig.

It’s a little surreal to see our story in print.

The article walks through how we went from first-time boat owners on a Catalina 22 to completing America’s Great Loop with our two kids... working remotely, homeschooling, fixing things as they broke, and figuring it out as we went.

It talks about the uncertainty. The growth. The community. The way spotting an America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association burgee in an anchorage felt like finding friends.

But what struck me most when I read it wasn’t just the adventure itself.

It was the power of the story.

We lived those 5,000+ nautical miles one ordinary day at a time. Lock by lock. Mile by mile. School lesson by school lesson. At the time, it didn’t feel like something that would one day be in a magazine. It felt like normal life aboard.

And yet here it is, our ordinary days turned into a story someone else might read and think: “Maybe we could do that too.”

Our family was featured in the December 2025 edition of Soundings Magazine.

That’s one of the reasons I built Loop Life Academy.

Yes, to share practical resources.

Yes, to make planning easier.

Yes, to help people work remotely and cruise confidently.

But also to help people capture and share their own stories.

Because your Loop — whether you’re dreaming, planning, underway, or finished — matters. The small moments matter. The mistakes matter. The lessons you learn might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

Being featured in Soundings is an honor. Truly.

But what excites me even more is the idea of helping more families and cruisers document their journeys... in journals, blogs, newsletters, videos, photo books, whatever fits their life.

You don’t need a magazine feature for your story to matter.

You just need to tell it.

If you’d like to read the full article, you can find it here:

If you’re curious about how the Loop community supports cruisers before, during, and after their travels, Soundings also published a fantastic feature in the same edition (December 2025) on America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association and the way Loopers truly are “boaters helping boaters.” It captures something we experienced firsthand.

You can read that article here: Boaters Helping Boaters Conquer the Great Loop

My husband’s photography was featured in this fantastic article about the AGLCA and the Great Loop.

And if you’re out there cruising (or preparing to), I’d love to know:
How are you capturing your story?
