How to Choose the Right Platform for Your Loop Story
Sharing your Great Loop adventure doesn’t have to be stressful or complicated. The key is picking a platform that fits your style, your goals, and the time you actually have to dedicate.
Here’s a quick guide to help you decide:
Journal:
Even if you’re not ready to publish publicly, keeping a personal journal can help you clarify what you want to share and capture details you might forget later. A few sentences about your day on the water, a funny dockside moment, or a new anchorage can become the heart of a future blog post, video, or social media story.
We’ve created Great Loop journals with prompts for all ages, so whether you’re journaling solo, with your kids, or as a couple, it’s easy to turn your daily experiences into a record you’ll treasure, and a source of content when you’re ready to share.
Blog:
Perfect for long-form storytelling, tips, and reference material. If you love writing and want a permanent home for your memories, a blog is ideal. You can organize posts by location, season, or theme, and your stories will be searchable for years to come.
Tip: To make it easier, consider using one of our Great Loop Website Templates. They’re designed specifically for Loopers, letting you set up a blog or site quickly without fussing over design or code. Focus on the stories, not the platform.
YouTube or Video:
Video is great if you enjoy showing your journey visually. Short clips, scenic shots, tutorials, or family adventures all work well.
Just know that capturing enough footage and then handling editing can take time, so be realistic about how often you’ll post.
Email Newsletter:
Newsletters are fantastic for keeping a small, interested group updated. Short, regular updates (maybe once a week or month) can be less overwhelming than maintaining a public blog, and you’ll have a direct line to readers who care most.
Social Media:
Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook are excellent for quick snapshots and casual storytelling. They’re fun for connecting with other Loopers, but posts can get lost in feeds, and archiving them for long-term memory can be tricky.
A Hybrid Approach:
Many Loopers mix formats. You might keep a personal blog or journal for long-form reflection, post highlights on social media, and share key updates with friends via email.
Ask Yourself
Think about your audience and your goals:
Are you documenting your journey for yourself or your family?
Do you want to inform or entertain other Loopers?
Are you hoping to build a community along the way?
Your answers will guide which platform feels most natural.
